The secret truth about Bayle’s House Hull’s newest managed office space.

“It is one thing to preserve a culture, it is another thing to harness it as a vehicle for future development and innovation. When we acquired Bayle’s House in early 2019, we were faced with the task of preserving a building integral to Hull’s rich history of industry, commerce and the arts, and redeveloping it for the modern business.”

– Charlie Allenby, of Allenby Commercial.

Located within Hull’s picturesque Old Town, Bayle’s House offers state-of-the-art facilities within walking distance of Hull’s finest landmarks and amenities.

Our new studios have been designed to provide small spaces for the next generation of growing businesses and young creatives. Enquire today and we’ll be happy to show you around.

History of Bayle’s House (5 Facts that Reveal its Hidden Past):

Bayle’s House has been home to some of Hull’s leading merchants. Eminent among them was one Erasmus Darwin, whose brother was the direct ancestor of Charles Darwin himself.
Did you know?
Charles Darwin, who is famous (amongst other things) for eating an owl, was also the father of evolutionary biology.
One of the former owners of Bayle’s House went by the colourful name of Kitty King. Mrs. King was the grandmother of Hull’s own John Venn: the logician famous for designing the Venn Diagram.
Kitty’s strong genes were also passed on to a number of England’s most prodigious artists, such as the novelist Virginia Woolf and the painter Vanessa Bell
Did you know?
As a child, Virginia Woolf was nicknamed ‘the goat,’ which foreshadows her celebrity as one of the greatest writers of all time.
The plot of land where Bayle’s House stands has been occupied since the 14th Century.
Bayle’s House was once occupied by the Sykes Family of Sledmere. During their time in Hull they amassed a fortune through ventures in finance and shipping. Their archives of correspondence include letters from the likes of Winston Churchill, T. E. Lawrence and Arthur Balfour.
